Going bananas.

Apparently, a power breakdown had spread rumours of a coup in the country. Responding to the reports thousands of miles away, the President responded, “Pakistan is not a banana republic and rumours about overthrowing of Pakistan government is a nonsense, total nonsense" implying that on 12th October 1999 one could be forgiven for comparing the country's reputation with that of the fruit.

He later said, “Such changes do not necessarily require power breakdown.” Ofcourse, who else would know better. (Maybe his book "In the line of fire" will reveal what such changes actually require).
